Boston's Aoife Clancy Band brings us music with a sense of humor in the Irish tradition with vocals, flute, tin whistle, button accordion, guitar, and percussion.

Aoife Clancy (pronounced "Eefa") brings a refreshing new voice to folk music, one that ranges from traditional Irish songs to ballads and contemporary folk. Aoife comes from the small town of Carrick-on-Suir, in County Tipperary, Ireland, where her musical career began at an early age. Her father, Bobby Clancy of the legendary Clancy Brothers, placed a guitar in her hands at age ten, and by age fourteen she was playing with her father in nearby pubs.

Aoife later moved to Dublin, where she studied drama at the Gaiety School of Acting. After a season at the Gaiety, Aoife was invited to do a tour of Australia. There she performed at festivals and concerts sharing the stage with some of Ireland's greatest performers. In 1995 Aoife was asked to join the acclaimed group "Cherish the Ladies," one of the most sought-after Irish American groups in history. She has been a featured soloist with orchestras such as the Boston Pops and Cincinnati Pops and collaborated with the Boston Pops on their Grammy nominated Celtic album.

The Aoife Clancy Band brings together the talented Ms. Clancy with musicians Shannon Heaton on flute and whistle and button accordion and Matt Heaton on guitar and vocals. The instruments compliment Aoife's voice to produce a finished product that leaves the audience stunned by its scope and fabric.

Matthew Heaton’s powerful rhythmic playing is the engine behind the trio. Born in Pittsburg, PA his father, a noted organist, instilled Matthew’s love of music at an early age. After a couple of false starts on piano and trumpet at school, he discovered the guitar and went on to study classical guitar in Italy. He has performed at many concerts and festivals throughout the United States and Canada, along with his wife Shannon. Both are founding members of the group SIUCRA.

Shannon (Murphy) Heaton plays Irish flute, whistle, and button accordion. Her mother, an amateur musician, gave Shannon her first music lessons on the piano. In 1989 she moved to Chicago where she became involved in the North Side’s Irish music community, and where she earned a degree in ethnomusicology from Northwestern University. She teaches for the Comhaltas (Harvard, Boston College).

Matthew and Shannon currently reside in Boston where they often can be seen playing at local music sessions. In addition to their work with the AOIFE CLANCY BAND and SIUCRA, they perform with piper Eamon Dillon's band CURFA.
